Secondary Dominance is Illinois State University's premier women's a cappella ensemble. Established in 2004, the girls have been delighting audiences with their instrument-free peformances on campus and around the Bloomington-Normal community. They perform a range of music-- anything from pop to rock to Broadway-- and arrange the majority of it themselves. Secondary Dominance is a student-run Registered Student Organization with Dr. Karyl Carlson acting as faculty advisor. Upcoming Events Prairie Thunder National Anthem Secondary Dominance is excited to sing the National Anthem at the Prairie Thunder hockey game at 7:05pm on Saturday, January 16th. ICCA Midwest Quarterfinals Secondary Dominance will be competing for the second time at the International Championship for Collegiate A Cappella Midwest Quarterfinals on February 20th at Missouri State University! The girls strongly feel that you should take the six hour trip to come see us compete! (If not, we'll probably forgive you). SD simply can't wait to show their stuff and see some fantastic a cappella at the competition! Recent News Sounds Like My Saturday Night! Secondary Dominance can not be more stoked to announce that they have recorded their first studio album ever. "Sounds Like My Saturday Night" is a CD unlike any other, jampacked with Secondary Dominance a cappella greatness! The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Secondary Dominance is thrilled to be accepted for the second year into the Midwest Division of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) through Varsity Vocals! More details will come on how you can support the girls! We also extend our congratulations to ISU's male a cappella group, the Acafellaz! High School Tour On November 23rd and 24th, SD rocked the Chicago suburbs! They performed for fantastic high school audiences at Lake Zurich High School, Stevenson High School, Bolingbrook High School, Fremd High School, among other shenanigans! Many thanks to our audiences, the directors, and our wonderful families for housing and feeding 13 hungry girls! Poise Dance Concert SD performed during Poise Dance Team's Concert, along with fellow a cappella group, The Normal Guys, on November 15th at 2:00pm. Thanks to the wonderful ladies of Poise for the opportunity! Everyone put on a fantastic show! Secondary Dominance Fall Concert Secondary Dominance presented their annual fall concert on November 14th at 9:00pm in Kemp Recital Hall! It was an evening of a cappella wonderment with a bunch of new arrangements, some old favorites, and always a fun fun time! Many thanks to Illinois Wesleyan's all-male a cappella group, Suspended, for opening and being wonderful! We were overjoyed at the fabulous turnout, and can't thank you enough for coming, especially those of you crammed in the aisles and the back of the hall! We may have been a fire hazard... but it was worth it! Late Night at the Bone Secondary Dominance performed at Late Night at the Bone on October 2nd, in honor of the grand opening of the Bone Student Center's new Prairie Room! They performed a short set at 8:15, and had the joy of listening to fellow a cappella group, The Clef Hangers, and friends from the Improv Mafia as well. Thanks to everyone who came out! ISU Choral Showcase Secondary Dominance rocked first performance of the year during the Choral Showcase on Sunday, September 20th at 3:00pm! They performed "Baby Mine" featuring Victoria on the solo! A video will be up shortly. Congrats to the new girls on their first song with us and thanks to everyone who came out to listen! SD Welcomes New Members! Secondary Dominance had a record high turnout at their auditions on September 25th! So many thanks go out to all the lovely and talented ladies who tried out-- you made our job so difficult! We are excited to welcome six women into the SD family-- senior Kate Schnelker-Parks, sophomores Brittany Gronset, Jenelle Hicks, Megan Stavnes, and Grace Urrutia, and freshman Abby Vombrack!
